Episode n°7-IN
METEO-FRANCE'S YELLOW WATCH FOR THUNDERSTORMS AND HEAVY SHOWERS
Current situation
Strong thunderstorm cells, caused by the interaction of warm & humid air from the south-east and a fairly cold air at high level, stagnate near the north of the West Indies.
Forecasts
The strong thunderstorms observed in the East came closer and reached the island of St Barthélemy today morning, causing strong accumulations of precipitations. After a lull this afternoon, there remains a medium probability tonight but stronger overnight and tomorrow morning to see new thunderstorms reaching our islands. Given the amount of water already fallen, any stormy shower occurring in the coming hours would lead to further flash floods.
Despite periods of lull or even good weather, a real improvement of the conditions on the area with evacuation of any stormy risk is not expected before tomorrow evening.
Observed data
About 40 mm (1,6 in) of rain in less than an hour was recorded on St Barth this morning, and about 60 to 80 mm (2,4 to 3.2 in) in places since last night. (10 mm=0.4 in)
On Saint Martin, only a few showers have been observed for the moment, without significant rain accumulation.
