Retour probable du beau temps demain | Back to fine weather tomorrow

The disturbance / tropical wave has well scattered just to pass on our islands but is reorganizing on VI & Puerto Rico with numerous thunderstorms. We can still be affected by a few showers but thunderstorms become unlikely for us. However, this mini-system could expand and marginally and temporarily affect our islands. In principle, the good weather should return until Wednesday. Possible new worsening from Thursday but it is not sure at all.

The system in Atlantic a very low chance of formation

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Franklin, located a little more 100 miles east of Chetumal, Mexico.
A trough of low pressure located about 1000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles continues to produce disorganized cloudiness and showers. Development of this system is not expected during the next few days due to unfavorable environmental conditions. However, some development of this system is possible by the weekend while the system moves west-northwestward at about 15 mph over the western Atlantic. Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent. Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent. Note from the webmaster: this system should pass well off our islands and when it wakes up, it will already move away.

NO TROPICAL CYCLONE IN ATLANTIC BASIN CURRENTLY

  1. Atlantic:  99L:  An elongated area of low pressure located about midway between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles is producing disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity. Unfavorable environmental conditions should limit development of this system during the next few days, but conditions could become more conducive for some increase in organization of this disturbance by the end of the week. This system is expected to move generally west-northwestward across the tropical Atlantic at about 15 mph during the next several days. Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent. Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent. (NHC) This system doesn't treaten our islands at this time.
  2. Caribbean Sea: Tropical Storm FRANCKLIN formed yesterday around 11 pm over the western Caribbean Sea.. This system threatens the Yucatan Peninsula. No threat to our islands. See NHC

  • What is an "Invest"?: An invest is an area of disturbed weather for which the NHC is interested in collecting special data, such as microwave satellite imagery and specific model guidance. While the NHC says that designating a disturbance as an invest "does not correspond to any particular likelihood of development of the system into a tropical cyclone," it is generally known that if the NHC designates an invest, that system is of interest to them, and usually has at least a low chance of subtropical or tropical development. The ATCF file system contains specific information for active invests, similar to active tropical cyclones, and that information is displayed below, if available.
