POSSIBLE TROPICAL CYCLONE NEXT WEEK ON THE WINDWARD ISLANDS (SOUTHERN LESSER ANTILLES)...

The threat against our islands is currently low. Tropical Cyclone's name: Matthew

8 AM. A tropical wave located about 350 miles southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands is expected to move rapidly westward across the tropical Atlantic Ocean at 20 to 25 mph for the next several Days. Environmental conditions could be conducive for some gradual development while the system approaches the Lesser Antilles next week. Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 %; Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 % (Steady; no change since yesterday). At this time, the estimated track (zyGrib/NOAA GFS) moves by Barbados and St Vincent about 350 miles south of St Martin. Nearest point of approach: 310 miles soutwest of St Martin Wednesday night. Then, it is forecast to race toward Jamaica. No direct threat to our islands at this time. 

Potentially threatened regions: Barbados, St Vincent-Grenadines, St Lucie and all Windward Islands (Martinique, for example) i.e. about 350 miles south of St Martin. Then, later: Jamaica, Northwestern Cuba / Yucatan & Mexico Gulf.

CYCLONE POSSIBLE LA SEMAINE PROCHAINE SUR LE SUD DES PETITES ANTILLES...

​La menace pour nos îles est actuellement faible. Nom du futur cyclone: Matthew.

 8 H CE MATIN Une onde tropicale située à 550 KM sud-est des Îles du Cap-Vert (Cabo Verde Islands) est prévue de se déplacer rapidement vers l'Ouest et les Petites Antilles. Les conditions pourraient devenir favorables pour son développement en approchant l'Arc Antillais en milieu de semaine prochaine. Chances de formation dans les 2 jours: très faibles, 0% et faibles aussi dans les 5 jours, 20% (Stable; pas de changement depuis hier). En ce moment, la trajectoire zyGrib/NOAA GFS passe dans le secteur de La Barbade, St Vincent, Ste Lucie soit environ 550 km au sud de St Martin. Ce système devrait ensuite s'éloigner vers la Jamaïque sans se rapprocher plus de nos îles. Au plus proche, il devrait passer au sud-ouest à 500 km de Mercredi à Jeudi

Régions potentiellement menacées: La Barbade, St Vincent-Grenadines, St Lucie et le sud des Petites Antilles en général (Martinique par exemple). Ensuite: Jamaïque, Nord-ouest Cuba / Yucatan et Golfe du Mexique.

NHC: KARL CONTINUING TO GET BETTER ORGANIZED...

FORECAST TO PASS JUST EAST OF BERMUDA EARLY SATURDAY.. .At 800 AM AST (1200 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Karl was located by a NOAA Hurricane Hunter aircraft near latitude 28.1 North, longitude 64.8 West. Karl has slowed down recently, and is now moving toward the north-northwest at around 9 mph (15 km/h). An increase in forward speed and a turn toward the north are expected today, followed by a turn toward the northeast by tonight or early Saturday. On the forecast track, the center of Karl should pass near or to the east of Bermuda late tonight or early Saturday. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Karl could be near hurricane strength as it passes near or east of Bermuda tonight. Karl pose no threat to our region.

  • HIER: Assez beau temps parfois nuageux/orageux. Houle modérée. Quelques averses éparses dans les environs et peut-être 1 orage ou deux.
  • 9:40 h: Peu de changements. Partiellement nuageux, averses possibles dans les environs. Mer: calme, vents légers SSE 10 km/h. Température 29,7ºC* au NBBC (Anse 3).
  • AUJOURD'HUI: Assez beau temps un peu orageux mais des vestiges du Cyclone KARL peuvent encore passer sur nos îles et provoquer quelques averses notamment cet après-midi ou ce soir. Un orage n'est pas impossible mais peu probable. Possibles fortes rafales sous grains. Vents légers pouvant se renforcer un peu cet après-midi en retournant à l'Est.
  • WEEKEND: Assez beau temps demain Samedi avec tout de même 2 ou 3 averses possibles. Possible dégradation en soirée. Dimanche, possible dégradation en soirée et nuit  avec des orages possibles.
  • SEMAINE PROCHAINE. Temps pourrait être beaucoup moins beau. Lundi: averses et orages possibles au passage d'un talweg. De plus, un système tropical est attendu vers Mercredi sur le sud des Petites Antilles. Il pourrait nous apporter un mauvais temps relatif jusqu'au weekend suivant. Pas de danger direct prévu actuellement.

 

*Les températures doivent être prises à l'ombre et dans un endroit aéré. Les températures prises en plein soleil n'ont aucune valeur...



 
 
 
 
  • YESTERDAY: A few scattered showers could have occurred in the vicinity. Moderate swell. Calm waves in the bay. 
  • 9:50 am: partly sunny becoming partly cloudy at times, flat sea, light SSE winds. Temperature 29.7ºC /  85.5º F in Nettle Bay Beach Club (Anse 3).
  • TODAY: Fairly good and warm wx but some Karl's remnants could stay over our islands and trigger a few showers in evening or tonight. A thunderclap is not impossible too. Possible strong gusts in squalls but it is unlikely. Light winds could increase somewhat in afternoon and return to East.
  • WEEKEND: Fine weather but 2-3 showers remain possible especially early morning. From Saturday night some worsening is possible with showers and thunder maybe. Little change on Sunday with worsening expected in evening and night.
  • NEXT WEEK:  Less good weather. More humid. Monday, relatively bad weather expected with showers and thunder. From Wednesday, a Tropical system is expected to approach the Windwards. No direct danger for our islands, but a relatively bad weather could dominate until the following weekend.
